Richard H.'s Story
After I graduated from high school I attended Daytona Beach Junior College and after graduation from there, I went to the University of Florida and then to Stetson University where I received a BA in Education. I taught sixth graders in DeLand, Fl for six years and then moved to the Orlando area where I taught junior high students and worked in security for Disney.
In 1982 I moved to Mississippi and taught school during the day and went to law school at night and graduated from the Miss. College School of Law in 1986, passed the Bar exam and went into private practice in Rankin County, MS.
Rankin County is a bedroom community to nearby Jackson. It is one of the fastest growing counties in the Southeast and the fastest growing county in MS.
In 2001 I was elected to serve as the county prosecutor and was recently re-elected. I prosecute for over 20 law enforcement agencies and really love my job.
Along the way I became married to Elaine, a wonderful and beautiful woman. I have a son, Adam, who graduated from Miss. State University via an atheltic scholarship, and four step children, Kim, Danielle, Joseph and Hunter.
Adam is a football coach, Kim is my administrative assistant, Danielle is an aspiring actress in Chicago, Joseph works on a ranch in Oklahoma and Hunter (9) is home schooled ...Expand for more

I often thnk of those days at MSHS and wish that I could visit with some of the interesting persons that I met there. I would love to talk awhile with Mr. Gold, visit with Coach Piggot, ask Mr. E.G. Francis who he really was, engage Mrs. Blickman in a lively discussion, hear the Buc fight song again played by a high school band that was outstanding and listen to the unique sound of students changing classes mixed with the sound of big block engines practicing for the Daytona 500.
In 1997, I was able to speak with Coach Tom Owen who lives in Huntsville, AL. He is a very smart man and I wished he could have been with us the whole time.
Is there a spring that comes arond that was as sweet as those in Daytona back then? I'm sure there are to others living in other places but we were living in such a great place and a great time.
Recently, a television retrospective looked back to the end of WWII and listed several historical and cultural events that later had important influences on our society of today. Among those named were surfing as a sport, with its music and life style; the automobile culture; family vacations; tourism, the space race, and NASCAR. We thought we were in a backwater place but now I know we were at the epicenter of signifiant cultural events.
